What is the first thought that crosses your mind when you hear the term ‘Yoga’! Well you may imagine an Indian saint or a yogi as they are popularly known as, with their body twisted and turned into a posture that looks impossible to perform.
Yes, you are right! Yoga is a set of exercises that’s a combination of different yoga postures and breathing exercises coupled together. All these yoga postures and exercises if practiced properly under the able guidance of a yoga instructor can be greatly beneficial for your mind and body. These postures though may look difficult to perform in the beginning can be mastered with practice.
So what’s the difference between yoga postures and yoga exercises? Well, all exercises, including yoga involve some physical body movement leading to overall fitness and well being of the human body. However yoga, unlike the other western form of exercise, involves the yogi or the practitioner practicing a number of yoga postures. This in itself is an exercise.
In a particular yoga session, it is not important to practice a particular yoga exercise a number of times. Rather, what is important is to achieve a particular posture and being in that posture for the time specified by the instructor. This helps both, the body and the mind immensely.
Therefore, there is a basic difference between a yoga exercise and an ordinary western exercise. You need to repeat the western exercise a number of times before achieving the desired outcome. Conversely, you can attain the same result with the yoga posture not only easily but also in a relatively shorter duration. For example, if we compare the yoga exercises and yoga postures with aerobic exercises, the benefits provided by both these form of exercises vary, with yoga providing holistic benefits. According to studies and research carried out on different forms of exercises, yoga postures and exercises are much more beneficial than other exercise forms. And hence its popularity os on an ever rise these days.
The popularity of yoga postures is also spreading because of the fact that it is an almost zero investment exercise. The only requirement being proper yoga apparel that are stretchable and comfortable. The yoga mat is another thing you require when practicing yoga exercises. The yoga mat helps protect your body while stretching properly. Some other props easily available everywhere are. chairs high cushions and so on.
You use all these yoga props and accessories to practice different yoga postures. These yoga postures help stretch every muscle and part of your body making them function to their full capacity. For example, yoga postures help in improving your digestion by easing out the bile from your gall bladder and also help solve constipation problems. Other yoga postures benefit patients suffering from heart, kidney, and liver disorders. To conclude, therefore we can say that all yoga postures help in improving the overall physical fitness of your body.

It is very important to note how Yoga is done perfectly. This is because you would not get the desired effect you wanted if you didn’t do it the right way. The proper posture is the basic thing that should be observed when doing Yoga.
