All About a “Yoga” Pose

Different studies on yoga reveal many different yoga poses such as hatha Yoga. A yoga pose not only helps you stretch each and every muscle of your body, it also helps you de-stress your mind by helping it to relax.

Though many yogis believe that meditation is the ultimate goal of yoga one needs to achieve, each yoga pose acts as a stepping stone helping you release this goal. According to many popular yoga studies, a total of eight yoga poses can be practiced.

Just like all other forms of physical exercises, you need to appropriately warm-up before practicing different complex yoga poses. When doing your yoga warm-up, you primarily focus on the neck and shoulder exercises, unlike stretching that is involved with most other yoga forms. The sequence of yoga poses in many yoga centers is predefined by a yoga instructor. However, if you are practicing yoga on your own it is best to practice yoga poses in a particular set sequence, beginning with some particular asanas such as the Savasana or Corpse pose.

As you know, the main aim of yoga is to relax your mind and body. Savasana helps you achieve this relaxation. You can practice this yoga pose when doing other poses, and also at the end of the yoga session. Similarly, another asana known as Sukhasana helps you to mediate well and also eases your neck and shoulder when doing warm-up exercises. Not to forget, the Surya Namaskara or Salutation asana which help you in stretching each and every body part. While the Sirshasana or the headstand pose and the Sarvangasana or the Shoulder stand help individuals agile in nature, the Halasana or the Plough pose is more suitable for flexible people.

As you already know, yoga provides you relaxation of both your mind and body. Most of us, irrespective of whatever we may think, don’t know how to relax. However, just like any other thing relaxing when performing yoga is equally important. If not done, you can even hurt yourself when practicing different yoga poses. Therefore, it is advisable to start your yoga session by practicing the Corpse pose to make yourself calm and free from all the tensions.

Not only this, you can also practice simple breathing exercises (pranayama) that can be largely beneficial. Contrary to what you might presume, not all yoga poses are difficult to practice, there are moves as simple as moving your foot a few times or taking deep breaths that may work wonders for you and relax you like never before.
