Yoga Equipment and Accessories

Can you guess the type of yoga equipment you would require for practicing yoga? Well not all yogis use yoga equipments, while others might only use a comfortable pair of yoga clothes and some open space for practicing different yoga postures. However, there are others who use different yoga equipments to enhance their experience in this field.

Yoga mats, blocks, yoga straps, and videos are some of the stuff that you can use for this purpose. Let’s understand this better.

Yoga Mats: Yoga mats are non slippery and help provide a proper balance and support when practicing different yoga postures. These yoga mats are thinner and lighter in weight than your normal mats. Not only this, they can be easily rolled into your gym bags. Select a yoga mat from a series of designs and a variety of colors.

Yoga Blocks: Yoga bricks and blocks are some other yoga equipments used by a number of yogis to:

o Practice stretching when trying new postures
o Lesser the strain on any particular muscle
o Try and attain better body movements

These blocks and bricks are available in different shapes and sizes and are well suited for different types of yogas.

Yoga Straps: A simple nylon strap that comes attached with a simple metal or plastic buckle is another piece of yoga equipment. This strap helps most yogis reach a particular yoga pose when they can’t reach it on their own. For example, poses such as Seated Forward Bend or Paschimottanasana are some such poses where you sit with both your legs in front of you and try to lay your torso flat over your thighs. If you find such a position difficult to attain with your loose hamstrings, a yoga strap can help you. It can be wrapped around the bottom of your feet and pull your torso or chest forward till you achieve the correct posture.

Yoga Videos: If you are a yogi too busy to attend a regular yoga class, then the DVD or a video showing different asanas being performed is the perfect choice for you. These DVD also act as a mood enhancer for many yogis.

This list is not comprehensive in nature as many yoga equipment shops offer yoga kits to their clients. These kits contain a complete package of different equipments described above and are very popular among yoga beginners.
