Weight Loss through Yoga

Yoga is one of the most talked after tradition of India, which has made waves all over the world, especially in the West, because of its easy adaptability and sure success. Dictionary describes Yoga as an Indian tradition, involving mental and physical disciplines, which are used to achieve a goal of good health and long life. It is an ancient tradition that disciplines and controls the mind in such a way, that the body remains physically well and active. Yoga has the capability of curing many ailments It can cure the lifestyle related ailments in a very easy way and the rate of cure is very high. Above all weight loss through Yoga is also possible.

Due to the advancements in science and technology, today we have gadgets to help us lead a comfortable life, but the greatest disadvantage is the faulty lifestyle that has lead to many lifestyle related problems. One of the lifestyle related problem is that people have become a couch potato and the result is excessive weight gain. It has been found that in US about 50% of adults and 62% of children are obese and need an immediate weight loss program to stay healthy. Many obese people spend thousands of dollars every month to reduce their weight, but all in vain. The answer to these peoples’ prayer is ‘Yoga’. Yoga can help in weight loss effortlessly and in a jiffy at a very cost effective manner. One need not go to any costly gym to reduce weight and can do yoga asanas even at the privacy of one’s bedroom.

Some of the Yoga asanas and Pranayam are exclusively useful in reducing obesity. Pranayam is the control of breathing which cleanses the internal organs and supply more oxygen to the cells, that keep the body fit. It also provides the much needed oxygen to the cell, so they can perform better and improve the metabolism of the body. Proper functioning of metabolic functions of body does not allow gathering of fats and other weight increasing material in body.

In the Yoga Asanas( Yoga Postures), the easiest and the best is the ‘Suryanamaskar’ in which there are different postures done together . It is a complete yoga regime in itself and a great calorie burner. It should be done at least 10 times daily. If done in a proper manner, it can reduce up to 4lbs in a month. Then there are other asana like, Matsyasan( Fish posture),Sarvangasan( Whole body posture), Tadaasan(Palm posture) and Konasan(Angle posture) which help in reducing overall weight of the body.

For specific weight / inch loss from body like waist, buttocks, arms, thighs, abdomen, you can practice specific asanas. For example, to reduce weight from abdomen and waist, Ardhachandrasan (Half moon posture) and Chandrasan (Moon posture) help a lot. Konasan helps in reducing the fat accumulation from the arms and thighs.

These yoga postures have no side effects and are extremely effective in weight loss through yoga. By the way don’t forget to close your daily yoga regime with Shavasan, where you lie down like a dead body and let the body relax!
